(Apple mobile devices only)

Effective December 15, 2021

In order to continue investing in the Canasta Junction app and to ensure the best gaming experience for all players, Canasta Junction has transitioned to a subscription model for all users playing on Apple mobile devices (iPhone and iPad).

With this change, users will be allowed to download and play Solitaire (A.C.E.) mode on Canasta Junction for free. We hope this will help more novice players to practice their game early on, as well as motivate casual classic canasta players to give Modern Canasta a try (we know they’ll love it!).

A subscription is now required for playing with other users on Live Play mode. All new users joining Canasta Junction are offered a one-month free trial subscription, so they can meet and play with friends. 

At this time, desktop computer users (Windows or Mac) are not affected by this transition.  All CJ players, independently of their type of device, will be able to play with each other as before.

Subscription Questions

Why is a subscription now required ?

Canasta Junction has been able to offer a great play experience to its community for over six years, at a very low price. Unfortunately, this is not sustainable. Raising costs in labor and server maintenance are preventing us from continuing to invest in our app. A subscription will allow us to improve the user experience, add new features, and ensure all players are always on the latest version, without having to pay for upgrade licenses. ​

How much is the Live Play subscription?

Once the trial period is over, the subscription cost will be $5.99 USD per month for all users (price may vary for customer outside the USA).

Does everyone need to update?

We strongly recommend that all players using Apple mobile devices (iPad or iPhone) update CJ in the next few days for a number of good reasons:
  • The six-month trial subscription offer is exclusively for existing customers. 
  • The six-month trial subscription offer is only available for a limited time through the updated app.
  • Newer app versions include bug fixes and provide a better user experience.
  • At some point in the future, Live Play and Duplicate Canasta servers will not support older app versions.
I play Live on my iPad and my Laptop. Do I need two subscriptions?

You only will need one subscription for both your iPad and iPhone as long as they use the same Apple ID.  Currently desktop computer users are not affected by this transition.   An update to the Windows/Mac app will come at a later date.
​I only play Solitaire (A.C.E) and Duplicate Canasta modes. Do I need a subscription? No, all CJ users will have access to ACE and Duplicate Canasta modes without a subscription. Remember, as before, Tokens are required to play in Duplicate Canasta tournaments.

When will the transition happen?

A new Canasta Junction version is now available on Apple’s App Store. Many iPhones and iPads will automatically update to the new version that contains some bug fixes and introduces the subscription. You may also manually update through the App Store.

How Do I Check My Subscription Status?

  1. Open the Settings app on iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. You'll now see all the Active and Expired subscriptions tied to your Apple ID.
  5. Tap on one to cancel, change options, or see more information.

I play on different Apple Mobile Devices

Do I need more than one subscription?

No, if both devices are connected to the same Apple account (also known as Apple ID). Checking your Apple ID is easy: open the Settingsapp. Click on the <Name> at the top. The device’s Apple ID will be listed under the name (an email address in most cases). Remember that you may always change the Apple ID on your devices.

I updated on my iPhone but can't play on my iPad.
Make sure both devices are updated and are connected to the same Apple  ID (see above). If they are the same, LOG OUT and back in again and select RESTORE. If you still can't get the subscription active, please fully delete the app and redownload (make sure you see the cloud with down arrow and not just "OPEN"), then go to your ACCOUNT, log in and select RESTORE.

Once I subscribed, can I cancel?

Absolutely! App Store subscriptions may be canceled at any time. Just make sure you cancel it before it renews. For more information click here. 

I'm a veteran member, how do I get the 6-month trial?

For Most Players:
Clicking on Live Play after the app is updated will open the subscription page. Devices with an Apple account (Apple ID) who previously purchased CJ will be automatically offered the six-month free trial. If that doesn’t happen, don’t worry. Just tap on Close, go back to the main menu and click on Account. Then press Restore Purchases (below). Return to Live Play and check your subscription offer again.

I did this but was only offered 1 month.
Subscriptions are tied to your Apple ID. Make sure that you are signed in with the Apple ID that you originally downloaded CJ with. (See above for how to do this).  If it is correct, LOG OUT and back in again and select RESTORE.
